Privacy Policy

1. Information handled by WaterBuddy

WaterBuddy handles information that you enter or that the app generates while you use it. This can include:

• an optional display name, selected character and app preferences;
• hydration goals, drink entries, credited hydration amounts, progress history, streaks, XP, badges and challenges;
• optional goal-calculator inputs such as gender, weight, activity level and climate;
• notification preferences, wake time and sleep time; and
• information you choose to include when contacting support.

The core app data is stored locally on your device using the device's app storage. WaterBuddy does not require an account and does not currently provide cloud backup or cross-device sync for this local data.

2. Apple Health

If you enable Apple Health integration, WaterBuddy asks for permission to write water intake samples to Apple Health. It writes the credited hydration amount, which may differ from the raw beverage volume. WaterBuddy does not currently read your Apple Health data.

Apple Health access is optional and can be changed in iOS Settings. WaterBuddy does not use Health data for advertising, marketing, data brokerage or unrelated profiling. Apple manages the Health data stored in HealthKit under its own privacy policy.

3. AI-assisted features

Premium users can choose to request a Hydration Coach message or an Intelligence Report. To generate the requested response, WaterBuddy sends only the relevant app information to a Supabase Edge Function, which forwards the generated prompt to Anthropic's Claude API. Depending on the feature, this can include your optional display name, character name, selected language, hydration goal, current progress, streak and summarized hydration history.

WaterBuddy does not use these requests for advertising or to train its own model. Generated responses are cached locally on your device so the app does not need to make the same request every time. Supabase and Anthropic may process request, response and technical log data according to their service terms and privacy practices. See the Supabase Privacy Policy and Anthropic Privacy Policy.

4. Purchases and subscriptions

Apple processes App Store payments. RevenueCat is used to validate subscription status and make Premium access available in the app. RevenueCat receives an app user identifier and subscription or transaction information needed to provide this service. WaterBuddy does not receive your full payment-card details.

5. Notifications

If you enable reminders, WaterBuddy schedules hydration notifications through the operating system based on your settings. Notification permission is optional and can be changed in iOS Settings.

6. Purposes and legal bases

WaterBuddy handles information to:

• provide the app features you request and remember your settings;
• calculate hydration progress and rewards, validate subscriptions and generate requested AI responses;
• provide optional notifications and Apple Health integration with your permission;
• respond to support and privacy requests and maintain service security; and
• comply with applicable legal obligations.

Where the GDPR applies, these activities rely on performance of the service you request, your consent for optional device permissions, legitimate interests in providing support and securing the service, and compliance with legal obligations, as applicable.

7. Service providers and international transfers

WaterBuddy uses Apple for App Store payments and Apple Health, RevenueCat for subscription management, Supabase for server-side AI request handling and Anthropic for AI-generated responses. These providers may process information outside your country, including outside the European Economic Area. Where required, such transfers are handled using the safeguards described in the providers' applicable terms and privacy documentation.

8. Retention and deletion

Local app data remains on your device until you reset WaterBuddy, remove the app or the operating system removes its storage. WaterBuddy's locally cached AI responses are replaced or removed as the relevant cache expires or the app data is reset. Apple Health samples and App Store purchase history are managed separately by Apple.

Support correspondence is kept only as long as reasonably needed to answer the request, resolve related issues and meet legal obligations. RevenueCat, Supabase, Anthropic and Apple retain data according to their own service terms and retention practices.

9. Your choices and rights

You can change app settings, disable notifications, disable Apple Health sync, reset locally stored WaterBuddy data and manage subscriptions through your Apple account.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing of your personal information, or receive a portable copy. You may also withdraw consent for optional processing at any time without affecting prior lawful processing. Requests can be sent to privacy@waterbuddyai.com. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

10. Children

WaterBuddy is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through an AI or support request, contact us so it can be reviewed and deleted where appropriate.

11. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures intended to protect information. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure.

12. This website

This informational website does not use advertising, analytics trackers or non-essential cookies. The hosting provider may process basic request and security logs needed to deliver and protect the site.

13. Changes and contact

We may update this policy when WaterBuddy's features or data practices change. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated when a revised policy is published.
